We've gone back slightly over 200 years. In 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr shot and painfully killed Alexander Hamilton. Later, in a separate affair, Burr was tried for treason, although he was acquitted for lack of the constitutionally required two witnesses. Now Cheney has shot a man. Let us hope that at his trial for treason we have the two witnesses, or a confession.
