My tweets

  • Fri, 22:46: Changing my volume group names and converting my fstab to use UUIDs, to mount my wife’s old, broken computer’s hard drive and read the data.
  • Fri, 22:47: I want to avoid duplicate volume group names and volume labels, you see. Then my old computer becomes my wife’s (an upgrade), with her data.
  • Fri, 22:52: I’m the only one of us that needs any real computing power. I wonder how mine compares to the systems she worked on at Cray. :)
  • Sat, 08:01: Who was it recently tweeted that type designers like vacuuming behind fridges? I always figured some were bookworms, who don’t vacuum.
  • Sat, 08:17: I do not see type as ‘design’, but as the primary medium by which the next generation will exceed us. Plain text type is the highest form.
  • Sat, 08:26: Computer Modern is badly flawed (it should not have been drawn as pen strokes), but its importance is such that no one here will exceed it.
  • Sat, 08:30: Type on display:
  • Sat, 08:59: I wish I knew where my copy was of this:
  • Sat, 09:01: I wish I knew where it was, even though it’s largely gibberish to me. I _am_ mentioned in a footnote in the peer-reviewed optics lit. :)
  • Sat, 09:06: Actually, come to think of it, maybe I don’t have a copy and only imagined I did. :) Because I do have two other of his books on the topic.
  • Sat, 09:08: Hmm, looking at the publication date, it must be a newer book than when I was buying these things. Problem solved. :) I guess I’ll get one.
  • Sat, 11:00: What language is this written in? --
  • Sat, 11:04: Are they trying to get me to want this or trying to make me scratch my head or is it all a big joke? --
  • Sat, 11:09: Installing Ubuntu in a VirtualBox reminds me of how I am going to hate installing this second-guesser for my wife. But not as bad as others.
  • Sat, 11:10: The words R*dH*t, F*d*ra, and S*SE are forbidden in this house.
  • Sat, 11:17: I once tried to install Gentoo from within F*d*ra, and it prevented me somehow; I still don’t understand that. I know it eats config files.
  • Sat, 11:28: The Ubuntu Unity interface does look decent at first glance. The old Ubuntu interface based on Gnome was pretty bad. (I use Fluxbox BTW.)
  • Sat, 12:12: Well, tried the new so wonderful Ubuntu interface, and it was a painful experience. Turned off 3D acceleration in VBox to block it.
