The reason for the unpopularity of the Iraq occupation

I have noticed the lament that the Iraq occupation is unpopular with Americans not because it is wrong, but because we are ‘losing’. But I do not feel quite as bad about that, because I think our ‘losing’ is not independent of the wrongness of the occupation. If you act in contradiction to ‘reality’, you tend to get crushed.

Also, the Pentagon is now saying there will be six permanent bases in Iraq. The euphemism for ‘permanent’ is ‘enduring’. I am curious to see what we do with these abominations if we manage to re-install a democratically elected government.
