The role of France …

The role of France in the world is to keep the United States from becoming the most chauvinistic nation.
The paper is employing what I have long considered the only argument that needs to be made:

‘That is why we believe the state of Texas should abandon the death penalty – because we cannot reconcile the fact that it is both imperfect and irreversible.’

Apparently some people, such as these editors, need to have it driven into their heads with railroad spikes that our courts are ‘imperfect’—to me our courts are a Shakespearian tragedy—but now I’m looking a gift horse in the mouth and that’s not such a good thing for me to do. :)
