I don’t think the Iraqi parliament should go on summer vacation. I think it should head for the hills—hills far away from Iraq. For their own good and their families’.
I have found why Albertan was rendered so poorly; it’s because there were ridiculous values set for the font-wide hints, in the PostScript private values table. So it appears I may actually be able to use Albertan in e-books in the future, and not have to use the bold as if it were the regular. And I’ll bet the same thing is true of a bunch of other Lanston and Rimmer fonts.
I’m learning how to set the font-wide hinting, which makes hinting of the individual glyphs work a lot better, and makes autohinting tend to work well. This isn’t as scary as I was led to believe by either the fontforge docs or Bringhurst’s book.
