Apollo 4 on column of fire

Today, the day the FISA-gutting bill was made certain to become ‘law’ (really an officialization of lawlessness), I did pledge to give to the Strange Bedfellows money bomb and I also made another small contribution to the conventional FISA-gutting-accountability fund. I pushed the total raised to $345,340; there’s still a long way to go to get to the goal of $500,000. Let’s get there!

Randi Rhodes, meanwhile, has been bamboozled totally by Obama and actually, in the process of praising Obama lovingly for the (in this context trivial) virtue of allowing anti-FISA-gutting blogs to exist at my.barackobama.com, called the comments of anti-FISA-gutting bloggers there ‘moronic’. I do not know whether one or more of the comments she was speaking about included any of mine. I guess my comments could be moronic, without my even realizing it, but at least I’m not letting myself be a manipulable chump, and don’t keep a drawer full of spectacles in different shades of rose.

Thom Hartmann used the words "betrayal" and "frigging" and strained to hold his tongue until tomorrow when he has had a chance to calm down. That was a good move, although Thom does have a drawer of rose-colored glasses; let’s just hope he doesn’t succumb and open that drawer.

What people do not realize is that Barack Obama is lying to them

So far Randi Rhodes, Jeff Farias, and the first caller to blessed Sam Seder subbing for Mike Malloy have used Barack Obama’s statements to argue that there is a silver lining to the FISA-gutting law(lessness).

What these people have not been considering is that Barack Obama’s justifications are lies, although Sam did correct the points on which the caller had been misled by those lies. People are using Barack Obama as a source of information about the new law(lessness).

Barack Obama is trying to bamboozle you. Simply do not let it happen; do not believe the man, but question everything he says, and do not trust him, but instead work to restore the system of checks and balances, to keep him reined in should he make a power-grab. Vote for Obama, but he is a threat like any future president. To help restore the system of checks and balances, weed out the worst Democrats and in so doing put fear of the people into the Democratic majority: http://www.actblue.com/page/fisa, http://accountabilitynowpac.com/

Campaign contrabillation

Instead of a campaign contribution, I’m sending Obama a bill. How much should I take from him? I was thinking $100.

I wonder if it’ll work to put a negative number in the webform. I could get the money as credit on my credit card.

Add your name to the ACLU’s newspaper ad

Below is a message from ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero, with an important FISA action you can take today.

Dear Barry,

Today elected officials in Washington sold out the Constitution -- again.

Cowed by the Bush administration's pre-election scare tactics, the Senate passed privacy-stealing FISA legislation undermining your Fourth Amendment rights.

It's outrageous, unconstitutional and un-American. That's why the ACLU is prepared to challenge this law the moment George Bush signs it -- and you can rest assured, they'll be meeting our lawyers in court.

Our lawsuit will send a powerful message to those in Congress who played it safe when they had the opportunity to defend the Constitution. You can join the ACLU in sending that message by signing on to our ad letting Congress know that if they won't stand up for freedom, you and the ACLU will.

We'll be taking out a full-page ad in a major national newspaper announcing our lawsuit and expressing our outrage at this abandonment of Constitutional principles. Our goal is to run an ad that contains the names of tens of thousands of Americans who believe in the Constitution and want Congress to hear us loud and clear: next time, stand up for our rights.

The bill that Congress passed and George Bush is about to sign codifies a Nixonian view on executive power that states, "if a president does it, it is not illegal." The ACLU doesn't believe that, and I'm guessing you don't either.

There has never been a more important moment to demonstrate to our leaders that we believe in freedom - not fear. Our ad will carry that simple message.

The more voices we add, the more powerful our message will be. We need tens of thousands of Americans, who are committed to defending the Constitution, to speak up and stand with us right now.

It's up to each of us to defend the Constitution. Thank you for standing with us.
