Apollo 4 on column of fire

The blow-up we didn't get to see

From what I can tell so far about John McCain’s latest impulsive stunt, I’m guessing that today we barely missed seeing McCain in a public, televised blow-up. Instead we got a stunt designed to contain the senator’s rage (and give him an excuse for being ill-prepared for the ‘debate’ this Friday, whether or not he shows up).

The full story is developing

Today seems to have been part of a desperate maneuver to keep Sarah Palin out of view: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/24/mccain-camp-to-propose-postponing-vp-debate/

I really wonder how people can live through hype again and again (in this case the CW that the Palin choice revived McCain’s campaign) without developing some immunity to it. I suppose part of the reason is, as is very visible in the Deaniacs, people develop a story to explain what happened, rather than accept they were caught up in substanceless hype.
