Things I hate, part XXXVI

I hate ClearType. Is there a way in XP to substitute some other renderer? (System-wide, or at least in browsers other than Safari that use something else in the first place.)

On-line discussions comparing Apple and Microsoft rendering

Googling turns up discussions of whether Apple or FreeType font rendering is better or worse than ClearType/Microsoft rendering. What these discussions seem to neglect is the difference between legibility and readability. Microsoft’s rendering (at least in XP) is legible but unreadable; if books looked like that, you wouldn’t want to buy them, and you certainly would not treasure them.

Oh, Glenn, Glenn ...

Glenn Greenwald, in his habit of writing more than he should have, implies that Barack Obama made a campaign promise to clean up MSNBC’s practice of presenting biased ‘analysts’ without disclosure:

Next thing you know, it will be Barack Obama’s fault that NBC lets Andrea Mitchell opinionate without revealing she’s married to Alan Greenspan, and that they give any platform at all to Pat Buchanan.

(Trying to appoint Tom Daschle, whom I dislike, to anything is Barack Obama’s own fault. But Greenwald’s tendency to write far too much has nothing to do with Barack Obama, except that it now is more annoying than when we had a murderer in the White House and Democrats desperate to mollify him.)
