Apollo 4 on column of fire

The marvel of it

I keep marveling about how Bernie Sanders was right that Bush ‘wasn’t worth’ impeaching. It was put badly, but Sanders was right – it wasn’t worth the risk. I (like ‘Bush on the Couch’ author Justin Frank) believed that Bush had to be removed to avert catastrophe, but it turned out better to let Bush become discouraged and bored and to want nothing more than to avoid making momentous decisions.

Maybe even the sheepish Congress was a good idea, though promising to be a lion and then acting like a sheep was a betrayal.

What I don't know

Well, I still don’t know just what we are doing in Afghanistan, but I noticed that we are no longer arguing over whether there should be timetables – the president laid out a rough timetable, no hesitance. That sad part of our recent history is over. I guess that’s something. I sure hope he knows what he’s doing (unlike Johnson).

Bob Herbert implies that Barack Obama sends soldiers to war for political ease

Bob Herbert vomits on his own typewriter: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/01/opinion/01herbert.html

I may think Obama is doing the wrong thing, but I don’t for a second attribute to him such base motivations. Be ashamed, Bob Herbert! Be ashamed, for so easily dismissing a speaker’s words in favor of long-distance mind-reading type-type-typed onto the Internet.

Herbert can do better. It will be to his shame when he doesn’t.
