With no help from the moon

I’m basking in the glory of my own wit at the moment. Brent Budowsky, in his Pundit’s Blog, commented that Harry Reid got this senate bill passed without any help from the president, and I remarked (probably not yet published) that I was beginning to think that if Brent had looked through Galileo’s telescope he would complain that he saw mountains without any help from the moon.

The witticism has some serious meaning, because, roughly speaking, the way to distinguish scientific method from non-scientific method is that the former accepts results and questions premises, whereas the latter accepts premises and questions results. I try to use scientific method in all parts of life, including my opinions on politics. Almost all other people do not, and consequently our political life does not keep pace with our technological life, and we are on the edge of stupendous disaster.

FDL has gone insane
