Apollo 4 on column of fire

Extraterrestrial life

I’m watching a lengthy roundtable on extraterrestrial life, and no one has mentioned that Surveyor 3, sitting on the surface of the moon, had common bacteria in it that were still alive when Apollo 12 brought them back. It was an inadvertent experiment.

Maybe it would have stuck in the memory better if practically the first thing the Apollo 12 astronauts did on the moon hadn’t been to destroy their television camera. :)
