Orion

Somebody tell the news guy at Air America Radio how to pronounce
‘Orion’! It isn’t pronounced like ‘Oreo’.

Is it funny that NASA plans to replace the space shuttle with a
reusable Apollo capsule?

Of course we’ve seen that the space shuttle is a difficult object to
protect during re-entry, and that’s starting from a dead halt in low
earth orbit, not jetting homewards from the moon.

The goals of the space shuttle project were too science-fictiony.
We were going to fly space shuttles as if they were 747s and it
would be really cheap because of the volume. In a sense we got ahead of
ourselves, trying to leap up the learning curve.
