Flute playing

I have found that if I wear foam earplugs all the way in I can pick up a flute or whistle (and presumably also a recorder) and actually play more than five notes before putting it down. It seems that I have underrated until now the role of sound intolerance in my instrument-playing pain.

Related: I have wondered whether it would be possible for me to play a solid body guitar with the fingers. A pick would be too uncomfortable. The solid body would keep the strings close to me. Because the guitar is electric, the volume would be relatively controllable (that is, I could turn the sound to eleven, but I also could turn it to zero point one).

Note, I have training with a string instrument.
