The return of biting political commentary to this blog

There has been a dry spell of interesting things for so long, that the reader may easily have forgotten, or not known in the first place, that this is, in addition to being my personal LJ, a fiery political blog. Something interesting has happened. TV news guy Lawrence O'Donnell has said that he knows who spoke to Time magazine's Matthew Cooper about Valerie Wilson: according to O'Donnell, it was Karl Rove.

This gives us the opportunity to try anew at predicting what Patrick Fitzgerald has been doing all this time, and why he wants Cooper and Judith Miller to talk. Fitzgerald may want that information so he can press perjury charges against Karl Rove, for denying to the grand jury that he was Cooper's (and probably Miller's) source.

I have not lost my opinion that, when John Ashcroft and James Comey put Patrick Fitzgerald in charge of this case, it was because they had discovered that the 'Plame' leak was a conspiracy at highest levels, and had decided not being involved was better than helping cover it up. The scheme was for Ashcroft to recuse himself, putting Comey in charge, and then Comey would assign the case to Patrick Fitzgerald rather than a special prosecutor from outside DoJ; that way (or so Comey told us publicly), the prosecutor would not have to get approvals from Comey for this or that. Ashcroft and Comey both would be 'safe' against involvement in the conspiracy.
