Muddy thinking about extremists

Digby somehow associates the ascendancy of right-wing Republican politics with the Oklahoma City bombing:

I like neither right-wing Republican politics nor Oklahoma City bombers, but the Oklahoma City bombers were no more fond of right-wing Republicans than of left-wing Democrats. Before the Waco incident, there was the Ruby Ridge incident, which occurred when Bush was legitimately president. Before that, it was Bush who legitimately spoke of a ‘new world order’.

I’m afraid that Digby’s conclusion that now is worse than then, that the right wing generally is more dangerous now than in April 1995, ought to be ignored, because the reasoning depends on a false association. What was on the ascendancy in the early 1990s that mattered was not right-wing Republican power, but badly done policing of gun-toting kooks.
