I think with my gut – that is, I observe the feeling in my gut, and then talk about it. This posting by Kurtz made me feel terrified, yet the facts about which he is speaking are not worthy of terror. Norm Coleman calling for a do-over is not the beginnings of a coup d’etat but a sad joke. That it’s taking so long to resolve this matter is not a testament to Republican election-stealing skill, but rather is due to the tedious legal process specified in Minnesota statutes. Norm Coleman is going to lose and then a lot of Republicans are going to call Franken illegitimate, but Republicans screaming is not terrifying, but annoying. If Senator Shelby can question the president’s citizenship, then big deal if people say Al Franken stole an election (an intrinsically humorous notion). The terror I feel comes not from events but from Kurtz’s words. And I don’t like that.
A TPM posting that I recommend only for the bad example it sets
