As for K3B, I removed it from my Gentoo system. It never really worked for me, anyway; it would write the disk and then freeze up at the data-verification stage. It must not do that for everybody, but on the other hand I have worked in a place where our product froze up every time it was used, and it had gone like this for a year or two or three before I became the first person to realize it. So, I don't know, maybe other people just don't notice when they are typing "kill -9 k3b"; maybe it is like sleepwalking. :)
Now to my purpose, which is to Partitition Magic this XP installation to a fraction of its unused size....
