In ancient times, my people, probably an assortment of Canaanites, likely were led by vassals of the kings of the upper parts of Egypt, and thus sent as tribute to build stuff there. Over the years the social structure changed in Canaan – there were internal revolts. Some of the tribute slaves may have crossed the so-called Sea of Reeds, a body of water not yet firmly identified. Legends transformed the internal revolts into a campaign by nomadic conquerors who were imbued with suckiness. By modern standards the more likely story, luckily, is the more noble.
